Character Interview - JJ

JJ is one of the artists that Lyra hires for Edgestone Parlor but he becomes an even more important part of her life. He has a daughter named Heather and an nasty ex-fiancé that he'd rather have nothing to do with.

Let's get to know him

What’s your favourite place to visit and why?

The ocean, but mostly because it makes Heather happy. Heather is my daughter, she’s eight. She loves going to the ocean and giggles and laughs so much. I have so many happy memories there of just the two of us, recently I’ve been thinking of taking my girlfriend with but I don’t know if I’m willing to share that side of me yet.

What is the perfect date to you?

This is a tough one. I’m not really into dates, to be honest, but if it makes my girl feel special I’ll do whatever she likes. If I really have to plan something I’d take her to a restaurant and somewhere fun like bowling. If it’s during the day then I would take her for food and somewhere to melt her heart, like a shelter or something where she can play with animals.

What’s a must-have in a relationship?

Loyalty. So many people don’t have loyalty these days and it’s clear as day. It’s so sad. If there was more loyalty, more relationships would last. Stand by your partner, if they’re wrong speak to them in private. Unless they’re being an absolute ass but in that case, don’t date asses. Leave them.

Who was your first love? Tell us about him/her.

Yeah, that was a bullshit relationship. I got involved with her young and she’s Heather’s mother. She left us, well she left me for another man I don’t know why she left Heather. She’s trying to come back into our lives but she’s not welcome. I know she’s up to something, even if no one else believes me.

Where do you see yourself in ten years.

Hopefully with my own parlor, or a chain of parlors with amazing tattoo artists. Really I just want to be there for Heather and be able to provide her with the life I didn’t have growing up.

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you in a relationship?

Well, I slept with the babysitter – I wasn’t in a relationship when this happened but when I did get involved it came out.

Do you ever want kids? How many?

Well I already have one. I don’t know if I could handle more. Maybe, if I find someone I can trust. I want to trust my current girlfriend, but after Jade left like that I don’t know if I have it in me to be hurt again so soon.
